Celebrate good times . . . come on!

Kool & The Gang.

Do you have fashion items that’ll never be Vinted because they evoke powerful memories?

A Sunday rummage through the black IKEA boxes on the shelf below my suits for an appropriate tie came up with a dozen.

Great aunt Maggie’s funeral is at 2pm, a celebration of four score years, many lived with her man Mick, gone a few years ahead of her.

Same crem, same crowd, cousin Colin once again on the eulogy.

“Everything you see will soon alter and cease to exist. Think of how many changes you’ve already seen; the world is nothing but change.”

Marcus Aurelius.

We’ll remember Maggie and siblings already planted- Jean, Nancy, Andy, Hugh- over steak pie.

We’ll mark Maggie as the last of Ozzie and Daisy’s weans to go and that poor Andy, the youngest, was first.

We’ll look at laugh lines on still familiar faces, our faces really, and find tall farming tales to lighten the load.

We’ll say cheerio until next time, after a dram, knowing it won’t be long.

We’ll note, in fact, some will be at Amie and Blair’s wedding in a fortnight.

These dozen found ties brought back memories from my whole adult life.

Can you put the tie with these seven tales?

  1. A lovely gift from Shepherd and Wedderburn two decades ago, after my first Scottish keynote, in St. Andrews.
  2. The most expensive neckwear in the line up, Duchamp, bought because it screams K/ssing With Confidence.
  3. A Covent Garden purchase from an early work visit to London 17 years ago… such a tourist!
  4. The one I will wear to Maggie’s wake today, bought from the same Covent Garden stall.
  5. A second hand tie from Flip of Hollywood in Glasgow’s Queen Street, when an architecture student in the 1980s.
  6. The tie that will compliment Hunting Buchanan tartan trews at my neice Amie’s wedding later this month.
  7. My personal favourite, bought especially for Sharon’s 50th birthday celebrations at House for an Art Lover.

I wouldn’t bother if the other two dozen ties still in black boxes ended up in a supermarket locker, but l’m keeping this dozen.

And be cremated in my favourite… but which one?
