It’s 4am, Holborn, the Big Smoke.

For the next hour a storm that started east of St. Paul’s will pass overhead. The screaming crows, shouting jakeys, thunder, lightning and rain has me wide awake.

Here are some thoughts that wandered in as l leaned into the awesome power of nature:

Influenced, no doubt, by my reading “1606, Shakespeare in the Year of Lear” before turning in.

🟣 in 1606 life expectancy in London was 30… and if you didn’t die by violence it would likely be plague.

🟣 in 1906 you’d only get 45 as a man, 50 if you were a woman… not a single person alive then ever enjoyed a hot shower.

🟣 what a time to be alive… l will leave City Airport at 18.30 tonight and be having toasted bread and Marmite at home by 2010.

Enjoy today, you ain’t getting a minute of it back.
